By 2005 aged 44, I had literally become addicted to personal development. In the space of 10 months I went to 4 residential seminars and read every book I could lay my hands on about how to be “successful”. The secrets to success must lie out there somewhere I thought…I just needed to find them.
What I was looking for was the elixir of happiness. But by early 2006, all I’d found was a formula for misery and unhappiness. It was very simple really – negative thoughts night and day for 4 months took me into a deep depression. I’d been to the doctors many times and sought advice from all sorts of professionals but no one could help.
The “dark night of the soul” as I described it in “Fit For Business” was the best thing that could have happened. With hindsight, it created a spiritual awakening. The power of thought was so strong that it could take me close to death in just 4 months. Nothing in the world out there was causing the deeply unhappy feelings – it was just my thoughts and I couldn’t separate them from reality, so that was my reality. It was a profound insight and one that changed my life.
The reason I’m sharing this with you is that for many of us, mid-life is a time of fundamental re-evaluation. A time to reflect on what we really want from life and work, but it can be a turbulent and difficult journey. My passion is supporting other professionals who are on that journey, helping them through stress into change that creates deep and lasting fulfilment.
The secrets to happiness are within all of us, it’s just that we tend to be looking somewhere outside ourselves to find them.
I want to help more people who are feeling stuck at mid-life – if that’s you, then we should speak. I’ve deliberately cleared some time in the next 7 days to talk about how we can make change happen for you. Click here and set up a call with me for about an hour – no charge.
I look forward to speaking soon,
